Our Friday nights usually involve a 'lazy' meal. Chips and a good bit of something else. I decided to try a veggie burger recipe by I saw in the Tesco Magazine by Jamie Oliver.
The ingredients are very simple, so nothing special I had to go out specifically for (after stocking up on chickpeas). I did minus the coriander and the lemon purely because I didn't have them to hand.
I had to use a food processor to blend up the sweetcorn and chickpeas, which I don't have. Instead I ended up using my Breville blender for shakes. It was quite a faf because you need a liquid in the mix to get it going and it kept just blending the bottom ingredients. I had to keep emptying out the blended bits and re-filling to get it all blended together. The consistency probably wasn't as good as it could have been. Some blended too much and some hardly at all.
Once padded out with flour they didn't look too bad. I left them in the fridge to set while I made some fries with sweet potato and regular potato. I grilled the burgers in a George Foreman. Added some salad and bish bash bosh.
Using the foreman gave them a nice coat on the outside but I found the inside to be quite mushy as though it needed cooking more, however they were hot. I, personally, did not enjoy these burgers. I just felt like I was eating sweetcorn. The taste was just purely sweetcorn. It was my first time having chickpeas so perhaps trying them this way first was not the best attempt at a new burger. I'd like to try another recipe for a burger made with beans but I wouldn't be trying these again. It's hard to not be biased because when I think of a burger, I think of meat and this really isn't a burger. It's definitely about changing the frame of mind out of not eating meat and associating each food with what it 'should' be.
